Why North
East England?

North East England is a bold, ambitious region where we make it easy to invest and develop new opportunities – and where investment makes a real difference.
The banks of the Rivers Tyne and Wear are the sites of the most ambitious programme of urban regeneration in the UK, in the cities of Newcastle, Sunderland and Durham.
Meanwhile North East England’s unique location and strengths in advanced manufacturing, technology and innovation are attracting billions in new investment for green energy and AI, which will create thousands of new jobs for local people.
For me, new investment can never just be about the buildings – it’s about the people that make our region special: their talent, their ambition, their creativity and skills. We make things happen fast in North East England through public and private organisations working as a team to create new opportunities.
That’s why you’ll see us focusing hundreds of millions in new investment on green energy academies, skills programmes, start-ups and scale-ups, a modern transport network and subsidised Mayor’s Fares – the infrastructure of opportunity.
We are moving at pace with work underway or starting this year on a major new film studio, a new arena site, a £10bn data centre, 400 metres of new deep water quays on the Tyne taking advantage of the Government’s recently announced 6 gigawatt offshore wind auction, and well over a million square feet of new business and innovation space at key sites across our region.
Come and see for yourself how we are making North East England the home of real opportunity.
Kim McGuinness, North East Mayor
